Why “Teach Your Child To Read”?

Hello, my name is Lynne and I’m a primary teacher and mother of three children: Maria aged 17, Daniel aged nearly 5 and Anita aged 3. I have taught now for 17 years, with experience teaching children from 3 years-old to 7 years-old and also teaching English as a second language to children aged from 2 up to adults. We live in Spain, in Valencia, where we have lived now for 10 years and I have been working in a British School here called Cambridge House Community College.

One of the things parents always seem to have most trouble with is understanding how they can help their children at home with reading and writing. Understanding the way children learn and how to help is what we as teachers are trained in, but as parents we receive no training whatsoever and are left wondering what we can do to help.

This is why I decided to put up this website (during the summer holidays when I have more time at home!), to help parents understand how children learn to read and write and how they can help at home. As I’m sure you’ll understand, having a family with three children – one teenager to taxi around and two little ones to run around after- means I don’t consistently have the time to work on it every day, and so I decided to put the site up in the form of a blog so I could put bits up as and when I had the opportunity!

I am very ably helped in the IT department by my husband Graham who puts this site together after I’ve written the content. He works in internet marketing and also runs an internet estate agency for people wanting to buy or sell in the Valencia region. Take a look here if you’re interested in making the move! You can see his other projects including this one at www.devanio.com

I hope you find this site informative and useful, please let me know on lynne@teachyourchildtoread.net if there is anything else you think I could include and I’ll do my best to help!

Remember, please bookmark the site and keep coming back to visit as I’ll be putting up more ideas and info all the time as I get time!
